After Treatment Care for Microneedling

1. Immediate Post-Treatment Care

  • Redness and Swelling: Mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity is normal and should subside within 24-48 hours. You may feel like you have a mild sunburn.
  • Avoid Touching the Skin: Refrain from touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area to allow the skin to heal properly.
  • Cold Compresses: Apply a cold compress or ice pack (wrapped in a clean cloth) to the treated areas for 10-15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling and discomfort.

2. Activity Restrictions

  • Avoid Strenuous Activity: Avoid strenuous physical activities and sweating for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment to minimize irritation.
  • Sun Exposure: Minimize direct sun exposure and avoid tanning beds for at least 1 week after treatment. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when outdoors.

3. Skincare Routine

  • No Makeup or Active Skincare Products: Do not apply makeup, retinoids, acids (AHAs/BHAs), or exfoliating products for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment.
  • Gentle Cleansing: After 24 hours, cleanse the treated area with a gentle, non-irritating cleanser. Avoid scrubbing or using hot water.
  • Moisturize and Soothe: Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to soothe the skin and keep it hydrated. Hyaluronic acid-based products are ideal for post-microneedling care.

4. Follow-up Care

  • Treatment Results: Initial results may be visible within a few days as the skin begins to heal and regenerate. Full results typically develop over several weeks as collagen production increases.
  • Multiple Sessions: Depending on your skin concerns and goals, multiple microneedling sessions may be recommended. Follow your doctor’s advice for optimal results.

5. Potential Side Effects

  • Dryness or Flaking: Some patients may experience dry or flaky skin as it heals, which can be managed with regular moisturizing.
  • Mild Redness or Swelling: Redness and swelling should resolve within 48 hours. If it persists longer than expected, contact the clinic.

6. When to Contact the Clinic

  • Signs of Infection: If you notice excessive redness, swelling, warmth, or pus in the treated area, contact your doctor immediately as these may be signs of infection.
  • Prolonged or Severe Side Effects: If you experience any severe or prolonged side effects, such as intense pain or irritation, notify the clinic for further evaluation.
